ABOUT HUSKY DISCOVERY LAB

WHY CREATE A MAKER SPACE?

Jean Piaget, a renowned developmental psychologist once said, "Knowledge is the consequence of experience."  Stanford University's neuroscientists conducted a study and discovered that deeper learning occurs when students engage in hands-on projects before reading texts or watching videos.  In fact, MIT asks students to submit an optional Maker Portfolio as part of their college application.  They want to know about the projects that students are working on in their spare time such as rebuilding a car, writing a computer program, or designing a costume for a play.

KEEP TINKERING AT HOME

Give your child time to "tinker" and "play" in areas that they are interested in.  Allow them to break apart their broken toys to figure out how it works.  Let them explore on their own.  Below you'll find some great online resources to encourage your child's excitement for being a "maker". Or visit our inspiration page to get ideas!
